For our June Conversations on Race and Faith, we will be going further into the study series “Justice or Just Us?” This session has two parts called “World Turned Upside Down. “and “Could It Be Me?” These two sessions tell us that: “God and Jesus use disruption to make us uncomfortable and force change” and “Just because it’s not your fault doesn’t mean it’s not your responsibility”

Take a moment and think about words that we often use to describe Jesus. What words did you hear growing up? What words do you use now? The words used to describe Jesus matter because they shape how we think Jesus did and would respond to injustice

From Rev Rob Fuquay—“For months I was absolving myself of the responsibility to change something because I wasn’t the direct cause of the problem. I think that’s the way many people approach the issue of racism. We might assume that because this problem existed long before us, then we are somehow free from the responsibilities of changing a system that negatively affects so many. We each have to make a decision whether we will attempt to absolve ourselves, or if we will insert ourselves into the situation, taking responsibility for eradicating a suppressive system of racism.
Finally, this is an excerpt from an interview of Nikole Hannah Jones of the 1619 project by Chris Wallace. How does this relate to our discussion?
