For more than 40 years, the Koinonia organization has been located on the campus of Franconia UMC. Koinonia begin in the 1960’s when some women from a church in Springfield decided to put their “feet to their prayers” by starting up a food and clothing ministry for those less fortunate.
Here are ways that FUMC helps support Koinonia. Feel free to drop items off directly to Koinonia, or stop by FUMC on Sunday morning and place your donations in the marked bins in Cokesbury Hall.
FIRST SUNDAYS IN EACH MONTH – is Koinonia Share Sunday – we collect cleaning products but all food items, paper products, etc., are welcome, too. Please, only non-perishable items.
HOLIDAY BASKETS – (deadline to donate is Nov. 16) – at FUMC, we are collecting items to complete 10 holiday food baskets, which includes cans of vegetables and fruit, a boxed dessert mix, stuffing and roll mixes, potatoes, etc. Gift cards for $20 are helpful also – this will allow Koinonia to purchase ham or turkey for the baskets. Contact Michele Sutton for more information.
Koinonia is currently collecting winter clothing, including coats, etc. – items should be in new or gently-used condition. (If you wouldn’t use it for yourself, please don’t donate it.) For more information about the needs of Koinonia, please visit their website.
